I don’t like Cheria because of her character. Yes, I understand that she is the motherly type, but she reminds me a lot of Natalia from Tales of the Abyss whom I also didn’t like because she pretty much kept shoving her love into Luke’s face the entire game and it was clear that he couldn’t care less.
Cheria is similar in that sense, it’s obvious to everyone since childhood she’s had a huge crush for Asbel, and Asbel seems to be the only one oblivious to the fact, HOWEVER, after knowing Sophie for only a few hours, he vowed to protect her forever and did no such thing (specifically geared) towards Cheria, telling me that he views his relationship with Cheria as either just a friend or as siblings.
Cheria, like Natalia, seems to constantly be flinging herself at Asbel and that’s what really sets me off about her. Yes, I do like the fact that she is motherly in the group whilst Malik is the fatherly one, but Pascal on numerous occasions displays mother-like qualities towards Sophie but more on the goofy-mom scale than serious-mom one. Cheria just seems to be way too clingy and concentrates mainly on Asbel and I think she primarily takes care of Sophie because she knows Sophie’s wellbeing makes Asbel happy and that’s what she wants more than anything.

Not to say that you can’t dislike Natalia, but this legitimately boggles me. Sure, in the first part of the game Natalia kept trying to get Luke to remember the promise she made with Asch, but I think that’s a little understandable considering Asch did make a commitment with her. Natalia doesn’t know that Luke’s a different person—she just sees someone who looks exactly like the person she grew up with who had a mutual interest in her.
After she finds out what happened, she doesn’t pursue Luke romantically anymore because she knows he’s not Asch. Her romantic interest in Asch is also mutual in the canon material. Natalia isn’t the only one hanging on. Asch is too, but the circumstances and Van’s involvement destroy any chance they had at happiness. Past the initial and imo understandable confusion, Natalia doesn’t “throw herself” at anyone who isn’t interested.
